Emily Gerdner, RDN, CDN, CDE

Destined to be a Registered Dietitian from the start, Emily cares deeply about
people and about food and knows that when it comes to nutrition, getting results takes
smart work, not just hard work. By investing years of training in clinical nutrition at
respected universities and hospitals, she has ensured that the work she does with clients
can deliver real, sustainable results.
Leveraging her expert skills and knowledge, Emily integrates science-based
strategies with a holistic, client-centered approach that meets people where they’re at,
resonating with a diversity of perspectives and values. What drives her is the challenge of making a lifestyle of eating well achievable for anyone, no matter where they’re coming
from. And, at the end of the day, she knows food should taste great and enrich our
lives—otherwise, what’s the point, right?

At Rutgers University, Emily earned a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition and was elected
president of the nutrition science honor society, Kappa Omicron Nu. She was thrilled to train with the prestigious clinical nutrition department at the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey, where she excelled in her postgraduate dietetic internship and
graduated with the job offer of her dreams—a position in pediatrics working with kids
and their families across a diversity of settings ranging from the NICU to the
pediatrician’s office, helping each child grow to reach their full potential.

In the years since then, Emily followed her heart first to New York City and then
on to Boston. In the process, she sought out opportunities to develop clinical expertise in
a range of fields, including everything from behavioral health nutrition to individual and
group counseling as part of a surgical weight-loss Center of Excellence. Along the way,
she started a private practice, earned an advanced certification in diabetes education
(CDE), and collaborated closely with endocrinologists in a practice affiliated with
Harvard Medical School’s Joslin Diabetes Center. What’s drawn her to each of these rich experiences has been the joy of connecting with her clients by supporting them in reaching their goals and, in the process, having the privilege of joining them on their paths toward healthier, fuller lives.

She is so excited now to call Southern Connecticut home, where she lives with
her husband and three young kids. In her free time, she thrives on cooking for friends
and family, trying new restaurants, playing soccer and softball, and going to
concerts.
